So it’s definitely been a long time coming but I finally have had time to get the brand new 15 gallon Kettle assembled and water tested this morning. This kettle has a 3 piece ball valve, with a 12″ Bazooka Screen and a 6″ Probe Thermometer to get things started off. Down the road I plan on upgrading to a false bottom but for now this setup will allow me to brew up to 10 gallon batch of beer Brew In A Bag style. One thing that I was curious about was how I was going to hang my grain bag to drain/drip the remaining wort out of but during my brew day over atHappy Homebrewer Duncan showed me an ingenious method by drilling a bunch of holes in a pale and stacking it on another. This way you can safely drain the grains without the risky business of setting basket cockeyed on top of the kettle risking spilling everything and potentially some serious injury’s.
The only things I need to do now is pick up the propane burner tomorrow and this afternoon I’m heading to Happy Hombrewer to pick up a Stainless Steel 1/2″ MPT x 3/8″ Barb so I can attach my hose to the ball valve to safely and easily drain into my fermenter(s) along with some grain for the inaugural brew day.
The inaugural brew day is going to be at a BrewVic teach a friend to brew event on Sunday May 25’th and I believe there will be a number of brewers out showing their setups and more then happy to share the wealth of knowledge about all things brew related. So with that in mind as well, If anyone is interested in maybe starting up the hobby or just interested in learning more about brewing all grain please send me a message and I will get you more information regarding the event.
BrewVic is a local Brewing club I am a member with and holds a number of events throughout the year along with monthly meetings to discuss practices, styles, and even tastings so for more information please head to their website at www.brewvic.ca or the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/brewvic/
