Peppermint Oatmeal Stout
Brewed by: Rich Fields
ABV: 6% (based on recipe)
After popping the cap i got a nice roasted bean, and malt aroma with a hint of mint on the background. This is my first time trying a mint Stout so i’m not really sure what i’m in for here haha. As it poured it had a nice deep dark brown color with a little bit of a high carbonation level and fairly dark brown head to it that was frothy and delicious, i would even go so far as to say it was creamy. As it warmed up the head did not dissipate much at all, the oatmeal really did it’s job here. First sip is nice and malt forward with a roasty body to it and a slight sweet minty finish, i enjoy the balance with this stout as it’s not too bitter and the mint does not over power anything and actually seems to work well with the roastyness. I could see a few of these going down quite easily.
I would recommend trying a mint stout if you can (i have never seen one but that doesn’t mean anything) becuase this is really a great beer. I know we will definitely be brewing this one again! Thank you very much Rich for Day 6 of the BrewVic Advent Calendar. Things are really off to an amazing start and I seriously look forward to the rest of the beers i have to catch up on with this calendar haha.
