I just popped a bottle of Imperial Stout made by friend Pete from the local brew club and thought I would share it
This past Christmas I really started to enjoy stouts, porters, and other more robust and full bodied beers which previously I had written off outright and when I felt sassy would drink a Guinness. But my little world has turned and I love it! Stouts are definitely a style I enjoy in many forms, and this home brew from Pete is one of them!
When I popped the cap it had a notable hiss to it and a little smoke blow off (always love that when I pop a home brewed ale) and a faint roasty aroma too it, but I left it in the fridge a little too long so it’s too cold to really enjoy the aroma so I let it warm up a bit and then the nice roasty aroma really came out with a nice hop note on the end of the nose. It poured a deep brown/black color with a thick light brown head of nice fluffy bubbles which stuck around for a few minutes as it warmed up a bit and slowly dissipated. The first taste of this beer was definitely surprising, I have had some imperial stouts that just roundhouse kick your taste buds on the first shot, but this was nice. It started off with a slight creamy mouth feel and then the roasted malts start to come through and finish with a nice lite roasty bitterness.
Overall impression – Very enjoyable and drinkable Imperial Stout, I would definitely recommend this beer and thankfully have another bottle hidden away.
Thanks Pete for this great beer!
