Phillips Brewing Company Winter Snowcase Day 23
Cabin Fever Imperial Black IPA
This beer pours a deep dark black, much like a hoppy black hole and had a solid two fingers of head to setup the picture and then slowly dissipated to a respectable size. The aroma was quite roasty, and hoppy (more roasty) but intriguing none the less. I have found with the last few black IPA’s I have tried that they were comparable with licking the bottom of an ashtray and I’ve gotten a little gun shy on doing this review because I have not yet tried this one. But I was quite surprised, it does have a dark roasted flavor to it, but it is nicely balanced with an aggressive amount of hops and it’s freaken amazing. It is roasty to start and then you get some lighter flavors from the hops and finishes with a little tiny bitter kick that almost leaves a nice dark coffee flavor in your mouth.
This beer is also a very easy drink, I just actually finished the bottle before I finished this review and it’s 8.5%, so I definitely have to say this was a very enjoyable imperial black ipa, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone with a love of hops.
I would definitely buy this beer again!
So it looks like tomorrow is going to be the last day of the Winter Snowcase, soooo that means it’s time to get brewing soon! I have lots of great brews planned including a couple with peppers as well as a home made abbey ale with DIY Belgian Candy Syrup along with a great line up for beer reviews.
Cheers, and happy brewing!
