Making Your Good Beers Better Since 2009

StirStarter is a brewing tool to take your home brewery to the next level and it’s fun to use. Many home brewers don’t pitch nearly enough yeast. A stir plate helps you culture higher cell counts of healthy yeast for quicker fermentation’s, lower risk of infections and better tasting beer. All in less time than it takes to make a conventional yeast starter.

One of the easiest ways to increase the quality of the fermentation’s you have going is to give the wort (beer) or must (wine) a proper pitch of yeast.  Depending on the gravity of what you are fermenting you will need anywhere from 5-15 billion yeast cells. It really depend’s on many variables, I recommend using a yeast pitch calculator to setup your starter size.  Yeast can become stressed from under pitching which can lead to a slow or even stalled fermentation, and off flavors just to name a couple problems.  A yeast starter can be produced on a counter with a few swirls of the flask or jar to keep the yeast in suspension.  It help’s to aerate the starter because the yeast needs oxygen and will continue to grow and this can take up to a few days to propagate a full pitch.  A lot of home brewers will build a stir plate and use a magnetic stir bar to keep the starter moving promoting healthy growth and in a fraction of the time comparably.

My friend Rob showed me one of these StirStarter’s when I first started getting into home brewing. He really spoke highly of how easy it was to setup and use and he really was not kidding.  I ordered the stir plate from a re seller online and it was about $40 including shipping at the time and arrived about a week later.

When I opened the package the stir plate was packed in a Ziploc bag with an envelope with the instructions on how to setup the stir plate for the first time use, which involves removing the top plate and pulling out some packing foam and a protective ring on the magnets and then close the unit back up and your ready to go.  The unit ships with a small stir bar and a magnet for removing the magnetic stir-bar from your vessel prior to pitching the yeast and an AC Power cable.

Over all I find the StirStarters to be an amazing product for the price, and it is very simple to use and it even comes with a LIFETIME repair or replacement warranty:

This product comes with a lifetime repair or replacement warranty. Simply put, if The StirStarter fails to perform for ANY reason, return it to me and I will repair or replace it at no charge. Customer satisfaction and great beer are my goals!

So if something does manage to cause the stir plate to breakdown just contact dan@stirstarters.com and Dan will help you out.

Over all I think that this is a outstanding product and a low cost way to move your brewing up to the next level.  My stir plate is now almost 2 years old and has never given me the slightest of issue.

Cheers,
Jonny
